Community Farming in Ifo One: Preparing, Planting and Watering Together
Published: · Green Harvest Empowerment and Action (GHEA), Dadaab

In Ifo One, Dadaab, members of Green Harvest Empowerment and Action (GHEA) and local community farmers are working side by side in the community vegetable garden.
The work begins with preparing the dry land. Using hoes and shovels, the team forms sunken beds, a method well suited to Dadaab dry climate because the beds hold water around the roots of the crops. Seedlings are then planted in rows, and every day community members carry water to the beds, weed around the young plants and tend the growing vegetables.
These kitchen gardens support household food security and nutrition for refugee and host community families, while building skills in sustainable, climate-smart farming that families can also use at home.
GHEA welcomes partners who would like to support seeds, tools, water access and farming training in Dadaab. Every photo in our gallery shows this real work by our own community.
